voice booming low silent murmurs
remnants of nursery rhymes
to a sunlit chair

he's at an age to be drifting
from a soft glare to gleaming
lifting a hand to the young family
as they sit to eat

to bouncing a coin over his receipt
wondering why
he isn't offered another drink
pointing in our direction

the waitress being discreet
mentions the manager
a few more bounces
and he won't remember her

slowly,
still knowing how to make a baby smile
he stands,
pale grey and brown attire blending into the brick
and leaves.
